Pogona vitticeps

The bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps) has become over time one of the favorite animals in the world of terrarium keeping, both for its good behavior and for how easy it is to keep in captivity.

Pogons reach ages between 8 and 12 years old and in their adult state their size ranges between 40-50 cm in females and 60 cm in males. They are active animals that will need a large terrarium where they can move and exercise.

Pogons inhabit desert and semi-desert areas of Australia in nature, so it will be essential to provide a good source of ultraviolet radiation and a heat source that reaches 35-40ºC at one end of the terrarium to generate a temperature gradient.

Minimum temperatures during the night will be around 18-20ºC. The use of day/night thermostats for temperature control is always highly recommended.
